I was thrilled to be invited to Nancy's studio; do you believe, for the first time! Gathering ideas for her solo exhibition, she presented the idea of Brittle Branches, which I took to immediately. 

This exhibition fuses her pastoral pastiche with a fresh perspective on representational abstraction. The new suite of paintings - appropriately titled "Brittle Branches" numerically - calls attention to the atmosphere beyond, plays with the rigidity of line, and subsequently softens it with impasto texturing.  --Lauren

For some Midwesterners - and especially those of us who live in Iowa - the first week of May means anticipation for Tulip Time! And whilst many will be enjoying the cultural festivities in quaint ol' Pella, Iowa, many more will be looking forward to Mother's Day as well.

So with all the blooming florals and sprouting greenery, we've compiled a colourful bouquet of artwork that can hopefully add more joy to your celebration of spring + fun gift ideas for the mother-figures in your life~

Sometimes the most unexpected and glitzy frame can add that final bit of pizzazz to a vibrant work of art.

Especially if you want to highlight the drama of a composition, our Bella Cabaret sequined moulding is sure to be the centre of attention and colourful conversations~

Can you imagine putting any other frame package on this exquisite Dorothea Tanning litho? This project is high up on the list of favorites for 2 reasons:

• We worked with the client on the whole design, but we were able to pull out the stops for what the artwork called for. We relish the opportunity to flex our design sensibilities.
•This gorgeous frame is on the chopping block to be discontinued by the manufacturer. We absolutely love this frame line and, even if it comes to an end soon, it's been a pleasure to have had it work it's way into our portfolio on several occasions. Each time, it was the pièces de résistance, and the client was over the moon with the final art object. 

 We're headed to Canada! Our appraisers Suzy (ISA, CAPP) and Lauren (ISA) are going to the International Society of Appraisers annual Assets conference. Plan ahead for framing and other services/projects with Suzy and Lauren before April 22nd. ​

You love finding the perfect art for your home or office. We LOVE finding the perfect frame package that enhances the artwork and fits your style. This design idea was fun and more fun. Sometimes it's that simple.

Since some families will be gathering this weekend, we thought we would share a project that holds this idea at it's core. Exploring the possibility of a commissioned artwork tends to cause a hesitation to even ask the question "can you do this"? We get a lot of projects like this and they always end up at the forefront of our fondest memories.

With certain valuable objects that are especially delicate - such as silk fabrics - static mounting is 100% noninvasive and an archival way to secure the piece within the frame. We ALWAYS approach a project with preservation as the first method in the design process. 

The following selections are all Hermès scarves. To reduce rippling and other unsightly puckers, the scarf is placed between two sheets of TruVue Conservation Acrylic (plexiglass) and painstaking adjustments are made to keep the item taut and centered in the frame package. The pressure and adjustments create a natural static that keeps the scarf from slumping over time.

Spring has sprung! As is typical with the season comes planning and projects. We wanted to highlight a few past commercial assignments where we worked directly with the client and partnered with interior designers and architects.

We work with the client through the project at any stage of the process: starting with floor plans in the initial stages, to wrapping up the middle and end stages prior to the grand reveal. And while it often makes sense for some projects to focus more on polishing up the latter stages of a project, our favorite stage is actually the very beginning.

When we get to start at the beginning design phase a TON of customization can happen. Not only will you have a more direct hand in early planning, but selected artists can also be commissioned to create custom-sized artworks that are tailored to your space and your vision, so the whole/final design package feels personal, cohesive, and complete.

New artwork from beloved familiar faces have recently arrived at the gallery. Check out these and more below, for everything from the colourful to the eclectic~

Framing Friday is here and this will be the last 'year-of-ornate-frames' post. We LOVE these frames, but we have SO many other fun projects to feature.

THIS project is a goodie and one to earmark for reference. Framing this Byzantine icon is a fantastic example of tension mounting without the artwork touching the glass. Here we have a gilt painted woodblock with no manner of hanging apparatus on the back of it. Our task was to create a preservation frame package and 'do no harm' to the object (no adhesives, no screws, no attachments that would alter the condition of the artwork).

Coming in hot, we've got some spectacular new works in the gallery! And - not unlike the recent weather - make sure you'll get your pick and enjoy the beauty before it disappears all too soon~
