- Senganamo, Artist Collective
Exploring alternative languages in clay, the artist collective Senganamo raises questions about the physical and the metaphysical concept of the negative space. Reimagining the ancient displacement experiments of Archimedes with giant containers of earthen clay slip, the constant inversion and reversion of the positive and negative creates a metaphoric cycle of transformation and rebirth. As if embryonic fluid, the slip yields to the human form allowing it to reveal while giving it space to recede, a constant rebirthing itself.
We are all vessels, exploring our physical existence in whatever space we occupy – both swallowing it up into our own form and spitting it back out for others to ingest. Our investigation of this liminal space sometimes freezes the gesture as if trapped in an ancient metope, and then sends the captive back into the entropy.
This physical state of flux moves energy through a sometimes genderless, sometimes archetypally female form, in a ritual returning the psyche to a precognitive state - embodying the ecstasy, the struggle, and the peculiar nature of almost everything human. - Rodney Oman Bradley has consciously been making art for 45 years. He made his living as an advertising photographer and filmmaker for international clientele. Rodney has worked in multiple disciplines for most of his life, and continues to play in his granddaughters sandbox as fervently as he did at 6 years of age. His current work is an eclectic process of making sculpture for camera and performance. Although he has only been dabbling with ‘clay bodies’ for about a year, [he continues his child-like exploration of new material and ideas.Kathryn Baczeski is currently a clay based artist and Adjunct Professor of art in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
