Photo Pair 8
The external landscape in this pair is the Mississippi River. Read that again if it helps. THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER! Not a backwater. Not a creek. The QR code provides context.
This location is 8.4 miles NORTH of the headwaters. Count Beltrami could have passed this location during his search for the headwaters. It was said that the Chippewa that helped the Italian explorer found his constant use of a red umbrella amusing enough to take him to the source of the river. Years later, the actual source was found elsewhere. The Mississippi travels almost 700 miles before it reaches the southern border of Minnesota. That’s 378 highway miles.
