  • Biography/Statement
"After spending over 25 years in Hollywood, filming television commercials, I began experimenting with a lathe I had inherited. As I developed new techniques, I found that I could remove the restriction of the vessel and let the design stand alone as a sculptural form.
I try to include a certain amount of “how did he do that” into my work, while staying true to good design. Contrast plays a very important role in my work. I enjoy combining multiple woods of varying colors and textures or using dyes and stains to create rich contrasts, enhancing the rhythmic lines that are very much a part of my work.
I have lived my entire life either near or in (surfing & kayaking) the Pacific Ocean. The ocean waves with their rhythmic undulations have always fascinated me and are the inspiration for the work I have created. I am constantly trying to expand on the major elements of my design, not only by contrasting lines but also by extending those elements beyond the walls of the vessel.
How does a bowl make the transition from 'functional object' to 'object d'art'? It is my hope that my rhythmic waves, placed in just the right position, will both capture your imagination and raise my bowls to that higher position."
