Leonardo was born on March 29, 1946 in Iowa City, son of Maurcio Lasansky and Emilia Barragan. He received a Bachelor of General Studies (1971) and a Master of Fine Arts (1972) from the University of Iowa. Leonardo Lasansky has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including Tomas, sold at Toomey & Co. Auctioneers '20th Century Art & Design Auction' in 2013. Lasansky, who has exhibited widely in Europe as well as the United States, has received five major international awards, the most prominent being in the Krakow Print Biennale at the National Museum in Poland. He was included in an American drawing retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum and his biography is recorded in Who'sWho in American Art.
