Here's your Framing Friday reminder that the Iowa State Fair has kicked off already! This is also your reminder that this is your last hope to squeeze-in whatever is left of summer because all the autumn holidays are barreling towards us! (Walk into a hardware store, you'll understand).
Each year we have the unique pleasure of framing several submissions for the Fabric and Threads - Surface Embroidery division. Check out some of our framing handiwork this year. The featured works in this post are from years past, so as to not give away any surprises.

Frameshop: Framing Friday | An Ode to the Discontinued (frame): Framing Elevates the Artwork4/12/2024
We chose a muted gilded frame from Larson Juhl, so as to not overpower the gilding in the art. The ornamentation is also subdued so the artwork is of primary focus. The frame depth is key here. There is an archival buildup behind the mat that is keeping the block snug and in place. There is also a buildup of the silk mat along the inner edge of the frame, providing enough space between the art and the glass. There's quite a bit of engineering that goes into these frame designs!
