On Friday, November 7th, The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is hosting their 10th Annual Gala. This year, local artists Fred Easker and Julie Kulish, and noted East Coast artist Seth Clark are generously adding to the excitement of the auction with three original pieces representing their time and talent and belief in the importance of art. When asked why he donated his piece, Cityscape Study, he replied, “I’ve always enjoyed visits to the Museum of Art with my family in Cedar Rapids so it's an honor to take part in this year’s gala and give back to the museum’s outstanding contributions to the arts.”

Garden Delight, pastel, 20" x 20"
Debora Stewart, PSA-MP, IAPS-MC, is a contemporary artist recognized for her evocative abstract interpretations of flowers, gardens, and landscapes. Working in soft pastel, acrylic, and oil, she layers gesture, color, and memory into compositions that capture the rhythms of nature and the essence of fleeting moments. Stewart is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America and a member of the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies. She is also the author of Abstract Art Painting: Expressions in Mixed Media (Random House/2015), which has become a resource for artists interested in abstraction. Her work has been exhibited widely in galleries across the United States, and she has been honored with numerous awards in national and international pastel exhibitions. Stewart’s paintings have also been selected for invitational exhibitions in France and China, underscoring her international reach and recognition. As an educator, Stewart has taught workshops throughout the U.S., sharing her knowledge of pastel and mixed media with artists at all levels. She has also served as a juror for pastel exhibitions, contributed to leading art publications, and developed extensive online educational resources. Stewart lives in Iowa with her husband and miniature schnauzer. Her daily encounters with gardens and landscapes continue to inspire her creative journey. Earlier this April, we traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Assets 2025 Conference hosted by the International Society of Appraisers. The week was filled with insightful talks, museum tours, and meaningful peer connections.
A proud moment for our team: gallery owner Suzy McGrane-Hop was invited to speak on the panel “Best Practices and Considerations in Appraising Compromised Artworks" -AND- she was honored with the ISA Rising Leader Award for her outstanding contributions to the appraisal field. We also took full advantage of our time in the capital, visiting many of its incredible museums. Scroll through for very select photos of the art, architecture, and moments that inspired us throughout the trip! (there were too many photos to choose from)
Here's your Framing Friday reminder that the Iowa State Fair has kicked off already! This is also your reminder that this is your last hope to squeeze-in whatever is left of summer because all the autumn holidays are barreling towards us! (Walk into a hardware store, you'll understand).
Each year we have the unique pleasure of framing several submissions for the Fabric and Threads - Surface Embroidery division. Check out some of our framing handiwork this year. The featured works in this post are from years past, so as to not give away any surprises.
